Does anyone know if there is a penalty for parking on the yellow zig zags outside a school?
The headteacher at my daughter's school reminds parents politely about parking - I am in favour of a tougher approach!

Yes it's illegal to park on them during prescribed hours whoever deals with parking in the area would be able to fine them.
Well they are not there to decorate the road and make it look pretty are they? Where are the traffic wardens when you need them...

I agree that a tougher approach should be taken, I'm not sure what that could be though.
Why dont the school invest in some traffic cones and place them outside during the school run times? Could promote one of the teachers to Chief Cone Person to prevent removal.
Our Head has asked the local constabulary to attend occasionally at school start or finish.

Even the sight of a plastic policeman has some effect, and they can either warn or ticket as they see fit.
or were you thinking more in terms of a machine gun post?
Just ask the person who parks there to move on, as the lines are there for a purpose. If you say it loud enough, with other parents around, the drivers should feel ashamed of themselves and move off!
As most schools finish their day araound the same time it is impossible for a traffic warden/parking attendant to be at every school every day. Remember, the lines are there for the safety of yours and other people's children. If there is a continuous problem contact the local constabulary through the head teacher.

Most people who abuse the lines, and I speak from experience, will just give you a mouth full of abuse if you approach them to give them advice. Take their car number and pass it on to the police. JD
Ask the local traffic branch to pay attention for a while - they will soon get the mesage after being fined.
