Where did the name of this famous junction on the A1originate from

The name originates from being the junction where travellers to eastern Scotland (via A1 and/or A68) are separated from travellers to western Scotland

Thanks, along the lines I was expecting but I was hoping for something a bit more exciting / interesting. OH WELL
On the same vein can anyone explain the Black Cat Roundabout on the lower part of the A1? Anyone got any more?

I never new the black cat roundabout was named after a garage. And Ilive only a few miles away from it.

Go on then, I suppose we might as well do Normans Cross as well.
