smoking when acccelerating hard

why does my 05 mondeo give out black smoke when i accelerate hard. it has just recently passed its 1st mot too.

diesel by any chance ?

it is blueish black smoke? If so, you have an oil leak somewhere

more fuel is pumped in when you accelerate hard and not all of it is burnt hence the black smoke
also the dust particals from diesel are bigger than from petrol, these tend not to flow out of the exhaust at low engine speed and gather in the exhaust and get blow out when the engine is reved hard

thanks guys. sorry should have added its a diesel and it's my friends car not mine. i just typed it as he said it.

even a new diesel vehicle can throw out black smoke under acceleration...quite normal
having said that when was the air filter last changed, can cause the same problem if really blocked & dirty
