Caught with no Car Insurance
5 Answers
i have recently bought a new car which was in the garage getting repaired. Without thinking properly i have changed my car insurance from my old car to my new and then drove my old car to work. I got stopped by the police and they rang my insurance at the roadside. They then done me for no insurance on my old car. This has just been a big mistake as i always pay the premium upfront. Now i face 6 points and a fine plus i had my old car impounded. What are my chances of getting off with this??

However, when you receive the summons, I suggest you plead guilty by post and write a full letter of mitigation explaining the circumstances. If you can back this up with documentary evidence, so much the better. The courts may well take this into account in mitigation - they will punish more lightly a genuine mistake rather than a deliberate and obvious flouting of any law.
