maybe your gear linkage is wearing out, its a common problem on the Corsa's, but i don't know what gears it affects you from selecting ,new ones are available on ebay (normally) - you didn't mention the year etc,
as for the handbrake the Corsa C has four cables, is it all limp like a cable has broken, or is it in a serious need of adjustment.
not that i'm a connoisseur of corsa's - tho i am on my third one & do handbrakes on a regular basis,
as for prices, all the cables should cost 20-30 maybe if you go that route,
gear linkage from 35- 50
as for labour who knows -unless you diy
have fun.

i have a corsa and had to replace the gear linkage, it was 2nd that started to get a bit sticky on mine, part is vauxhall only about 85 quid and maybe 1 hours labour to fit if you cant do it yourself. you can buy an overhaul kit for the linkage which is about 30 quid however if thats suits you better financially but what you might save in cost of the part you may lose in terms of labour costs as its takes longer to overhaul the existing linkage than to fit a new one, handbrake cables are slightly exposed behind the drums on the corsas and are more likely to corrode and fray, maybe worth having this checked also
Good grief, what`s the mileage & year? I`ve a 93 Nova & 2000 Corsa, with 85k & 59kl on the clocks, both used as Driving School cars in the past & both drive sweet as a nut with original clutches, gearboxes, handbrake cables & brake shoes As a change from 1st to 2nd or 3rd or higher to 2nd will put most stress on the sychromesh it could be that the clutch cable just needs adjusting. As for the handbrake, this may have an adjuster for the main cable before it reaches the rear axle (as on earlier Corsas),& self adjusting mechanisms on the which may have siezed or reached their limit.
