Hi my mk1 sporting punto is building up steam and heating up i have put a new radiator in and thermostat and there is a funny noise comming from the pully side can anyonehelp me. please,thanks

sounds like it's most likely the water pump is knackered.
the funny noise is probably from water pump bearings being knackerd.
More bad news these were prone to blowing head gaskets
Hi, the build up of steam as you say is Pressure, as said the grating sounds is the water pump pulley bearings in this case you have to replace the water pump, when the pump is replaced get the System Pressure tested as this test will indicate whether a Head Gasket has gone.
I would definatly check if there is any drop from the water pump

here was me thinking some people had provided good answers!! as tonyav states the 1.2 8v (which im presuming this is) is common for water pump failure and also head gasket failure, however all is not lost !! this is probably the easiest head gasket youll ever get!! change the timing belt and tensioner also as the tensioner is common for collapsing, doesnt do any valve/piston damage anyway as its a freewheeling engine but for peace of mind and no inconvenience and also its cheap for a belt kit its worth doing while your in.
