Hi USA Lady, this is the UK, they tax us on everything & get away with it! Why because we have not got the balls to say enough is enough, If the Goverment was to say they are going to tax fresh air the first thing the UK people would say "" How Much""
Wow, I'm sorry it's so expensive across the pond! We thought we had it bad a few months ago when gas hit $4.00 a gallon. That leads me to another question as far as the cost of living is concerned. What is the average cost of a house or apartment?
simonruss: I have no more control over being an American than you do being British. I'm sure you are every bit as nice a person as I am even though we are in different countries. :)
prices vary from region to region. But to give you an idea, my brother has just sold his 2 bed apartment in a very cheap part of UK for approx $160,000 and bought a 5 bed house in north carolina for $90,000
A friend from school also moved to America about 8 years ago (hence my visit, to be his best man). the first house he bought in Savannah GA was about $100000 and from seeing it I would say an equivalent sized place in the UK (with the land it had) would have been at least 3-4 times as much.
OK, I live in South Carolina which is in between North Carolina and Georgia. An average house of approximately 2000 - 2500 sq ft would be around $180,000 - $225,000 depending on the area. I currently live in a house that is 1400 sq ft and pay $800.00 per month and is located in a nice area of town.
Yes they did :) and in Macon and Atlanta, it was a good vacation :)
The general cost of living over here is far higher than in the USA, pretty much everything costs at least twice as much here (and we don't necessarily earn twice as much)
What is the US views on Obama? from what I read he seems to be a person that will listen, think, ask the country before making the judgement! Is that right? Also, Are you glad to get rid of Bush?
For the most part, most people are happy and excited about Obama's election. If he delivers all he has promised, we may see a turn around in our economy. I am a Republican which tends to be more on the conservative side while Obama is Democrat & more liberal. I think most people just wanted to get Republicans out of the White House. I personally like Bush but am certainly open to Obama & his new ideas.
