what's CC?
Question Author
Engine size sara, 1000cc 1200cc
okay, I gotcha!

I think it was mainly males, wasn't it? I think the cc's aren't too relevant. plenty of them drive around in those sad little hatchbacks, but think they can drive like Lewis Hamilton. I think they should be banned from taking passengers for a couple of years. they distract the driver, egg him on, or probably the driver is showing off to his mates.

very sad though..

Hi Sara, there is an answer to this, But my own views I will put on later on, I was once called clever over my replies so I will leave this open.
unfortunately it seems they need an accident to there pride & joy before they take more care.
I think CC and the type of vehicle has a lot to do with it although some of these hatches are low engine sizes modern egineering gives them lots of power and good handling (in the right hands)
A few years back Citroen deciced to give free 1st year insurance, the sale of VTR/VTS went through the roof to younger drivers and so the did insurance claims, most were heavy impacts and 90% of the ones i saw were total losses (15 +)...Citroen soon withdrew the offer.
Would it be worth increasing the age of driving to 21?

There would be less immature drivers on the road (I accept maturity is not always age related) and less cars in general. Hopefully less accidents, and we can all enjoy a small shaving off our premiums?

i think it would be unfair to raise the age to 21,
i started at 17, passed test when 18,
i think i was mature enough to drive my Jaguar 2.4 in1973
never had a major accident since then, had a few minors but not my fault -
ALL drivers should be made to use two wheels first, minimum of 1 year - if they fall of- it hurts - may slow them down, get them thinking about road safety
get some road experiance, that way they may look out for
bikers when they progress to 4 wheels,
CC wise as with scooters/bikes you are restricted to start with until you pass a test.
this (cc) wouldn't be a bad thing to introduce for cars,
until they are more mature/ skillful

but hey what do i know!
still a boy racer at heart

docspock, that Accounts for a lot of lads as well, their death rate is well above young Females, Sense & experience comes with age & life in general, the Insurance costs again comes mainly with driver age then comes CC of the car, As said on this site HGVs are limited to 56 & coming down to 50 under EC rules, the car a young person has should first be Either 1000cc & limited just like the HGVs & a seal placed on the links to keep the speed to this & checked, If the seal has been found to be tampered with remove the car off the road. The age of the driver should be put at 20 or as oldhamfan has stated 21, week after week in your local papers you see it, you pass it, My own brothers son a few years ago had a bad accident trying to be clever in turn cost a girl an arm, & the pratt has still no sense now at 34, there may be comments now to the effect "What a load of cr-p, they can say what the like, But try & see the hurt familys have when they have lost a son/daughter through some terr ars that should not have been speeding, & yes speeding in the hands of some that cannot handle it, pays the price & the price is DEATH.
