Just repeating what I put on motoring.. Can a head gasket go just like that? We bought a car last Monday and the head gaskets gone to day do you think the seller knew before he sold it us.. Any advice please thanks .
There is a possibility that the seller was aware of the head gasket going depending on the severity of the tell tale signs. It was very irresponsible of him/her to sell to you as continuing to drive a car with a damaged head gasket can cause serious engine damage. However, it will be very difficult to prove unless you are able to find out where the car was serviced previously to see whether that garage was aware of the head gasket damage prior to the sale date. Good luck!
very likely the seller knew, unless you have done something to cause the head gasket to go then its likely that he sold it with the knowledge that the car was dodgy
was it "sold as seen"? did you bring someone who knew about cars to look it over when you viewed it?
I bought it from a family member... That's wats so gutting.. I've had a lot of people tell me that he mustve known but yes it was bought as seen so stupid of me.. Mistake learnt.. Thanks for your replys :)
Was it a car prone to this problem?, there are a number. that are - Rovers. You need to do homework. Was the exhaust giving white smoke, was the coolant level below normal?, these are usual signs, but the coolant would have been topped up, no doubt. Cannot hide the vapour trail from exhaust.
Check for car faults at Honest John - brilliant web forum- as is this of course !
