We have recently bought a six-month old Qashqai (1.5dci) and when it starts from cold it emits a lot of white exhaust smoke. Dealer says this is normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

Depending on the weather you will get condensation from the exhaust maily from petrol cars, dervs also but not anything like a petrol, give the car a week/fourtnight & get your other half to check the coolant for water loss, if the system has lost water there is every chance it has blown a Head Gasket, if that's the case reject the car as you will get futher trouble.
I also have the same car with 1.5dci engine,as the dealer says this is normal, fuel does not burn in the engine at start up temperature,as long as it clears when your engine is at operating temps you are ok.
Still worth keeping your eye on fluid levels anyway
