Someone told me you need to go underneath the car to top up or check the fluid in the automatic gearbox. Is this right ?

Thanks for stating the obvious. I too have owned many autos and yes they have all had a dipstick in the engine bay. The Xantia I looked at doesn't or at least I can't find it , that's why I asked!
