Well here I am answering my own question but I thought it might help others. Rang my local M.O.T station today who told me this. If you want to m.o.t. the vehicle upto one month before the old one runs out you can do which effectively gives you 13 months m.o.t.. But you can m.o.t. the vehicle any time before that, you could even do it every week if you wanted to. If it fails the new m.o.t. the old one is still effective BUT the chap said, that if the the vehicle was in a bad accident and the cause of the accident was faulty brakes, which was the reason the vehicle failed the new test, you could be liable to prosecdution by the Police because you knew it had defective brakes. The chances of this happening are, I would emagine, very remote.
