Good morning
Could anyone explain to me, in words of one syllable, how I can tighten the fan belt on my car (Vauxhall Corsa).
I am not practical in any way but I really want to try and do this as someone said it\'s easypeasy (Hmmmm). My car screeches when I first move way so I know that the fan belt is the cause.

Hi, it's a straight forward job if you know the workings of a car, with respect you do not seem to have any knowledge, Only advise I can give you without costing you money go into your local library and borrow a book on your car or bye when from Hal-fords etc, you need the tools you may even need a new belt. The belt goes around the alternator, that as you look from inside the bonnet to the right of the engine, circular with vents around the body & is alloy, there are 3 bolt to slacken then by putting a lever against the block ( side of the engine near the alternator) and slightly lever the alternator over & feeling the tension on the belt, it should be about an 1" in play.
there is no fan belt, the fan is electricaly operated, i assume you are talking about the alternator belt ? i am not 100% but i believe this is held under tension with a tensioner so self adjusting.
why do you feel the need to tighten it ??
if you have a self tensioning alternator belt and it is squealing then it needs a new belt. if you put a small amount of water on the inside of the belt and the squealing stops and then returns in a short time then this is a sure sign that it needs a new belt.
