Ford Galaxy gear stick (AUTOMATIC)

Hello everyone,i hope someone can help.My wifes Ford Galaxys gearstick has a button on the top that you have to press (once you have pressed down on the brake pedal)to change gear.She tells me that sometimes she cannot depress the button.I have tried to replicate the fault and found that it is a bit sticky (forgive the pun)Does anyone know what could be causing this to happen and any remidy we can try.Many thanks.....Neil

You may find this a silly reply but try it, a spray can of Mr Sheene polish, direct the spray into the sids of the button & try. It does work I can assure you.

I would rather try a little spray of WD 40 oil.
