I booked a car rental on the Internet via Car Hire 3000, but also received emails from TravelJigsaw. The car hire was supposed to be with Alamo, but when I turned up to collect the car I dealt with Europcar.

Is Alamo the same company as Europcar, and what's the relationship between Car Hire 3000 and TravelJigsaw?

Europcar bought the European holdings of both National Car Rental and Alamo from their parent company , some time ago.
Can't help about Car Hire 3000.
Traveljigsaw is connected with Carhire3000, I spent a long time trying to identify a card payment to Traveljigsaw before I realised it was my carhire payment. They tend to try and get the best deal and may switch companies to your advantage. It's well worth phoning rather than booking online, they are very keen to sell and will offer extra deals.

Thanks - and thanks for the tip, although I wouldn't recommend any of these companies at the moment.

Without going into detail, Europcar charged me £187 without telling me (I found out by chance when I checked my credit card statement. £177 of this was supposed to be for bringing the car back a day late, when in fact I had returned it on time. Europcar shift responsibility to Car Hire 3000. Emails to Car Hire 3000 receive an automated reply that they will reply within 28 days.
