she will calm down when the snow has gone and the weather cheers up, just humour her :)

there are some normal cars that have 4x4 capabilities I think
tell her she can have one if she pays for it with her own money.

take her to an Alfa dealer. she'll recover.
Fiat panda 4x4's are surprisingly good off road

take her for a test drive in a discovery, it will do 2 things, scare her to death or show her what a proper 4x4 does, non of this panzy make shift wanna-be's
I used to drive a Discovery till it rocked & swerved on the M3 in the wind. Lost my confidence in it. I find a saloon far safer and better at road-holding.
i agree with TAMBO,
i used to have a discovery, it frightened the crap out of me in high winds at speed,

unless I had the caravan on, it was OK then,
why not try a KIA Sorento beat the land rover 3 years on the run as tow car of the year also does not look to much like a 4x4
id go for a nice diesel landrover freelander 3 door, chunky and sporty
Sorento 7 year warrenty?

Well thanks for all your comments, she was really doing my head in with this, any way took her out to look at a few, one being a 3 dr freelander HSE diesel auto on a 56 plate, I went for a quick pee and left her looking at it, came back and she had done the bloody deal, it matched her nail varnish for gods sake, picked it up last Wednesday and we are pleased with it, not as quick as her Mercedes but at least we wont get stuck in the snow again.
Thanks for your advice and comments.
