a dear friend of mine has a VW Eos which will shortly come to the end of its 3-year warranty. VW sales rep has told her it'll cost £442 to extend for one year. And more if she delays much longer. that's higher than her insurance. She hasn't had an accident in over a decade and has had hardly any probs with her Eos. Do you think she should take the extended warranty or would she be bonkers to do so?

Hi Chirp, tell her not to entertain them, if she has a family KNOWN local garage she can ask them to look after her car to the Spec of VW at half the cost, provinding the car has it's service by a VAT reg garage & her serviced book stamped Genuine Velo parts " Oil/ filters etc the car will hold it's price, for people to pay the dealers service charges they are getting ripped off.
This is basically an insurance policy. Like all insurance policies some policyholders gain, others lose (when the cost of any breakdowns in the next 12 months is less than £440). One group of gainers are always those who sell the policy.
£440 'buys' quite a large breakdown repair. If the car has been reliable, she has looked after it, is relatively low mileage, the chance of spending more than £440 in the next 12 months seems unlikely.
