I use a Dgital tyre inflator on my tyres and have 2 digital pressure gauges. there is a difference of about 5 lbs lower reading between the inflator reading and the gauges (they both give a similar reading to each other). Which do you think will give the most reliable reading and I should use. Thanks for any replies.

On my none digital footpump, the reading is high when I stop pumping.

If I disconnect and reconnect the air hose, the reading is more accurate.
Invest in a good pressure gauge and check your tyre pressures when the tyred are cold.

A lot of people drive to a petrol station and inflate their tyres when they are warm. This leads to false readings. I do not agree with the first answer. Pressure gauges at petrol stations are notoriously inaccurate. They may have been calibrated when they were first put in, but the are knocked about and abused no end by the public. The only exception to this is places like tyre fitters and vehicle repair centres etc.

Some of my work involves pressure gauges and I can calibrate a gauge, but if someone knocks it, it can affect the reading.

EDDIE51 next time you go to your local garage ask to see the calibration certificate for the their inflator, bearing in mind that it must be completed by a recognised UKAS acreddited body, stating when it was calibrated, what standard was used for the calibration and a host of other information.

I repeat what I said. They are bashed about, and that throws the reading out. It is pointless to drive to a garage to check your tyre pressures as they must always be done when the tyres are cold.
