Cleaner Air
Is it my imagination but ever since planes have been banned from flying over the UK the atmosphere seems cleaner? I know that 20,000+ft up we have the remnants of the icelandic volcano whizzing by but closer to the ground it seems perfect.
We are such a small country and having thousands of aircraft passing over it suggests what could be done if aircraft route planning had been thought out at the beginning instead of siting airports in highly populated areas.

in the days just after 911 the US imposed a no fly zone. Scientists and climatologist found that the the temperature variation between night and day increased by 3.5 degrees (from 'normal"). That was attributed to the lack of vapour trails were are acting as artificial clouds and keeping surface temperatures higher than they should be.

I suppose if you are in favour of more aircraft then its a strange way to tackle global warming as the contrails prevent or reduce the amount of solar radiation as the link implies.
I would be more inclined to another argument that pollution from aircraft falls to the ground as we know carbon is heavier than air. It is no surprise that Asthma has doubled in 10 years and without knowing actual reasons you could use aircraft pollution as a major candidate. The correlation ties up even though the motor car has taken much of the flak.
The vested interest of the aviation industry will make sure the truth is never told.
