It's see the chap crossing behind the mini, when there is an underpass 10 yards away. This is a particular black spot near me. Come on own up are you one of those idiots who will risk death and carnage to avoid some stairs and an extra few yards wlking?
Anyone any more examples of this?

To be honest the only underpasses we have here are under roads that have pedestrian crossings.
My Father failed his first driving test years ago for failing to stop and allow a pedestrian who had started crossing the road which he was turning into...
and another quote

According to the Highway Code, if a pedestrian has started to cross, they have right of way
"In the picture if you are turning left into the side road you are often confonted by people standing in the middle of the road"
Well they shouldnt just be standing IN the road - but if you mean they are walking across the road as the car is turning in - then YES you have to give way.

Rule 170 of the Highway code states...
watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way.

yes nosha that's the rule "Give way to pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turing , I agree 100%" . That's not the same as give way to some numpty who has crossed dual carrageway and is hence standing in the middle of a slip road because there is no paevement.
Question Author
walk up the road a bit in google and see if you can spot the pavements from which a pedestrian would be crossing from and too! Keep digging.
Question Author
"Right of way" is not mentioned in the highway code, it tells road users when they should give way. The closest it gets is when it talks about "priority" in those traffic calming chicanes.
i think some people feel stupid, walking slightly out of their way...as hough it implies they are somehow incapable of crossing without 'help' or even less cool...like crossings are only for kids and old people...normal people shouldnt need them...
i have heard this said by 2 people

stupid really, but i suppose an example in some ways of peer pressure...
To R1Geezer.. My RIGHT OF WAY posts were in response to your post staing...
"In the picture if you are turning left into the side road you are often confonted by people standing in the middle of the road"

I see in the picture the 'side road'.. and you state that cars often turn into this road to find people standing in the middle of the road...
So yes - if you are turning into this side road.. and a pedestrian is in the middle of crossing it - the pedestrian has right of way...
I was not referring to people standing in the 'island' area in the middle of two dual carriageways....

oooh touchy touchy R1.. perhaps you should carry on dodging people standing in roads then - as opposed to running them over!

Lord forgive them for standing in the wrong place and not jumping out of your way as you mow them down

I'm not the one causing accidents on the road, my licence is clean, never hit a pedestrian, car or bike. Guess what I stupidlly use crossings/subways/bridges where provided to cross the road and amazingly I have never been run over or caused a car to crash.

I surprised that on your planet jaywalking is the in thing but hey each to their own I guess!
yawn yawn - yeah we know how perfect you are R1.. you're always reminding us all...
There will always be a minority who think they know better - have a look at this chap leaping over a pedestrian barrier and getting his come-uppance (fortunately not fatal) :-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqK_RKJH8lo

Note also the mugs in the cycle lane the wrong side of the barrier.
Canary.. Nice to see his mates all dashing to his attention eh!!! NOT!!!
Amazing footage!
I sincerely hope that the chap knelt down towards the end was using his phone to make a call and not take a photo of the lad lying there!!!! he he

Cant quite understand what the lad thought he was doing jumping the barrier att he SAME time as the bus going past!!!
Question Author
You mean there was a bus in the road? Bl00dy inconsiderate!
He isn't risking death, there is nothing coming!
