I have an old Mondeo (93' 1.8 diesel) why does it smoke badly when ticking over but seems okay on normal running? not using much oil even though smoke is blue! TIA..

Yeah i think 17 years is old enough! was thinking of putting a no smoking sticker on the bumper just to wind people up!!

You have some bore wear. Diesel pistons in this Ford are pretty oval.
When they heat up they expand. A bit of wear, and you have idle smoke from exhaust.
Pump and injectors probably out of calibration by age or mileage.
Drive it.
Try some wynns stop smoke from your local autoparts,used it before seems to help older cars.
