Do not entirely agree with Count-A. My old tomtom one has several options to plan a route - fastest, shortest, avoid motorways, etc. The more expensive XL I bought recently has fewer options but is better in other ways.

Doesn't matter whether you pay £70 or £200, they still take you on strange routes. If it's on the fastest route setting they tend to take you on the highest speed roads regardless of distance. Mine tried to take me from York to Kendal in lakes via M62 Manchester. OK it was as quick as the more direct route but about another 50 miles further!
