MM Links Solutions July 2010 [Week 2]
20 Answers
For this second week, King John (aka rockfordill) proved able to switch off the flow of points at will. Based on a creative twist on the classic story of “Helen of Troy”, King John chose the following links:
Face CARD
FRIEND Ship
Battle FATIGUE
Horse SHOE
How quickly did these predictions fall? Well, two of them held out for most of the game!
Before we get down to the business of the day, we pause to wish “Happy Birthday” to the mum of grannydi for reaching the grand old age of 101. What a milestone! What an achievement! Well done!

No best answer has yet been selected by crofter. Once a best answer has been selected, it will be shown here.
For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The very early romantics were quick to cash in with lysander offering the hand of FRIEND SHIP for the first lot of TWO POINTS. This offer was soon accepted by both Strix and tearinghair (in time to qualify for bonus points). At this same early hour, patchett and teacher1 each entered the contest carrying a lucky HORSE SHOE (and picked up their TWO POINTS).
The next 17 entrants failed to pick a single point in spite of this promising start and it took wickedtongue to arrive exhausted with BATTLE FATIGUE for the third link at 09.32 and no one to follow his example.
He was closely followed by newcomer chickenchick (aka Ruth) with a shrewd set of guesses. Her “Friendship” was so long after lysander’s initial prediction of this link, that it was only worth One Point. When you read this Ruth, please note that you shouldn’t even consider Battle Axe ~ as it only contains three letters. We set limits of 4 and 8 letters for word length (see preamble to the original launch). Please try again next week!

The next nine entrants (once again) all proved pointless before Magyar shuffled the deck and produced the last link with FACE CARD for the final award of TWO POINTS. With seven entrants tying for a top score of Two Points, I single out Magyar for correctly predicting the very last link-word and so Magyar becomes eligible for the title of HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK.
*** Let trumpets sound and canons roar ***
*** The peasants cheer and shout “Encore” ***
The League Table after this second week is:
SIX POINTS: Aquagility, lysander, owllady, patchett & tearinghair
FOUR POINTS: cliffyg, Dustybun & paulineward
THREE POINTS: Magyar, teacher1 & wickedtongue
TWO POINTS: beejay1124, centrino, Dinkypuzzled, Elspeth, gen2, Grenmus, jan1956, jobjockey, joto, mirandasmum, slaney, Strix & x-ray
Ten others are on ONE POINT.
If anything, the field of front-runners has begun to bunch together in preparation for the long sprint home. The top of the leader-board reads like a “Who’s Who in MM Linkland” ~ with the single exception of relative new-comer owllady. Has she got the “here withall” to put this game to bed? Will she fulfil her early promise? Why don’t you tune in next week to find out?
For now, this is crofter signing off.
Until we meet up again: HAPPY LINKING!

Thank you 'crofter' for the good wishes for my Mum, we had a lovely lunch in her favourite restaurant on Wednesday. And then on Friday toured a hospice that had benefited from donations for her 100th last year. I think she will probably sleep for a week now!!
Thank you King John, all the festivities have addled my brain, and I'm just about in free fall!
See you all next weekend

I knew it was too good to last!! Back to 'nil points'! Well done to the trickle of point scorers!!! and thanks to crofter and his abacus, which doesn't know now whether it's a feast or a famine. AND well done King John ~ you fooled most of us, and I still dont know what Face Card means!! :0)
Best wishes to Great-grannydi ~ it hardly seems like a year since we heard of her 100th birthday being celebrated. :o)

Thanks Your Highness and Crofter.I can't believe that the one link has put me where it has.Just one thing your maj.--Have been looking for your Crown Jewels ever since I moved near to the Wash but so far no luck!Any clues where you "chucked them overboard??"Would love a few clues please.(Curtsies and beats a hasty retreat-backwards of course!)
Roslyn - I wanted to tell you on saturday that you definitely
were on the 'right wavelength' as I had spent sometime wanting
to use battledore but could not find a good 4 letter word 'dore'
anyway I do not think that Crofter would have allowed it !
sorry about the score but you and john have a good holiday - maybe I'll
have an avatar when you get back - but dont hold your breath !
