sorry, meant to post this in motoring. :-/
Question Author
oh okay, it is in motoring, whoops. lol
Thats scandalous - can't you go on one of your parent's insurances instead?
Question Author
i will ask them, i hate the fact that insurance is higher for male young drivers, i can see the reasoning but its so discriminating to people who aren't d!ck heads! :-(
i would try GOcompare but I warn you insurance is very expensive, I have just received my renewal and it has gone up nearly 50% and thats the cheapest I can find
I was on my husband's insurance for years (he's older than me so has been driving longer) and I got my own when we had a bit money. Even know, it's cheaper for me to insure his Land Rover (which I hate) and for him to ensure my mobile creche.
Question Author
i have tried loads of comparison sites but they all just say the same, i think about the 5th or 6th quote down on the list was £18,000! i want a company that understands that not all new drivers are idiots! there must be one somewhere!
^ bit more money
Question Author
lol sherrard! love the way you put it 'mobile creche' :-)
Benni I dont think there is they probably all work together anyway to keep that premiums high, sickening isnt it
Question Author
yep, very! such a scam!
Are you a student or in a union ? Sometimes Insurance companies have some sort of deal with them.
Maybe you should try a broker if such people still exist.
Bear in mind that if you go on someone else's insurance as a named driver, some insurance companies will let you build up a no claims bonus as a second driver...it's a bit tricky if you own your own car though, as you might not then be able to claim that you are a 'second driver'.
I take it you have upped the excesses as much as possible ?
Have you tried M & S - mine seems ridiculously cheap from them (and they are good if you have a bump). Mine's only about £20 a month and not much different for the Land Rover (I keep thinking that they have made a mistake - ssshhh, don't tell anyone).
Have you tried adding on a more experienced driver as a 'named driver'? NB: I'm NOT suggesting putting YOUR name as an additional driver on a policy taken out by SOMEONE ELSE on your car. That's 'fraud by false representation' (or 'fronting') and strictly illegal. But adding a parent (or other experienced driver) onto your OWN policy, as a 'named driver', can result in a substantial reduction in your premium. (It's completely legal and totally irrelevant as to whether that person will ever actually drive your car).

Also, have you considered the Pass Plus scheme, which will get you substantial discounts with many insurers?

yes im a student and yes i've upped voluntary excess to max, still no good, i will keep shopping around and ask mum if i can go on hers.
Which? recommends "i-kube" for young drivers - but you have to stay off the road between 11pm and 5am.
Question Author
thanx chris i will try that now, hadn't thought of that. ive considered pass plus but not too sure yet, depends how much it's going to bring my premiums down as to wether its worth paying for pass plus (also the extra experience i will gain which would obviously be good).
Question Author
i ad a quick look at ikube, that is an option i may consider if i cant find anything cheaper.
Swinton have a special section for students but I dont know if they are any good
Don't laugh but Farmer's Union were the cheapeast that my son found when he passed his test at 17 (you don't have to be a farmer)- and they quoted him £1006 for a Fiat Punto. If I had swapped my insurance they did a family quote thing which brought his down to just over £700. He'd been regularly getting quotes likes yours so I'd try them if I were you- I thought it was reallly good.
