hi, my friend has recently purchased a 2007 vectra tdci, it went back under warranty due to a gearbox fault 2 weeks ago, now it has gone back again and the garage are saying it needs a new clutch and flywheel. what is the expected life of these parts on a vectra.
he's done nearly 2000 miles since he brought the car and thinks the dealer are just taking the biscuit.

any help would be grateful.

Take the car back & ask for your money back, the car is not fit for purpose, give them chance to sort it out first, if they start acting the goat ( taking the pzzzz) contact trading Standards & tell them that you intend to do JUST THAT.
Expected life depends on the drivers left foot! if the driver keeps his / her foot resting on the clutch pedal you would be lucky to get 6months.

cheers guys, i informed him last night of what you'd said and the dealer are going to do it free of charge. he did have an astra from a vauxhall dealer and took it back as tyres were bald , engine management light was on and i told him to take it back and he had his money back. now this vectra has put him off vauxhall for good now, he's gonna stick with bmw from now on.
Hi just to conclude to the advise given, ask them for a FULL PRINT OUT of what's been done to the car, have they just replaced the Spinner plate ( Clutch only) they will try to save money the best way they can, get this in writing, I'm sure this car is on a belt ( Cam) when was is changed! do not let them Bull Sht you, if changed ( ask for proof) if there was a warranty on the car what does it include, if the car has been back due to the fault, make sure the Warranty re-starts from the time the car has been in for the repair, give them nothing, I might come across as a clever basd but I & like many others on here try to help people that will not stick up for themselves & get pizzzed about by promises.
Get real ... : )

Drive plate
Cover plate
Release bearing
If you Re-read my reply Albags, they try to save money by replaceing ""ONE""of three, SEEN IT DONE, otherwise I would not have answered the Question the way I have.

cheers guys, i have a decent knowledge when it comes to cars but not the newer cars with all the electrics.
me and my friend wil argue everything within reason and not get plzzed about as he's already had his money back on an astra from a dealer.
i understand what you're saying about changing 1 part and not the rest as i've also seen it done.
i asked originally as my knowledge on vauxhalls isn't that good as i've always had vw & audi and my knowledge is fairly good on those.
my friend had always had bmw and i thought i'd ask what the average life of the parts were just to see if it was just me or not when saying the parts shouldn't have gone on that mileage.
a work colleague had the same on his Zafira 57 plate diesel 150 bhp, they had to replace the Gearbox, dual mass flywheel & clutch parts under warranty - BUT he had to pay £££££s for the clutch plate, he got rid of it soon after, seems to be a common Vauxhall problem.
