I was wondering if anyone knew what the legal age for taking your driving test is if you were born after 1990 as I've heard that you can't take it till your 18. Is there any truth in this?
Thanks in advance.

No.

Minimum age you can take a test

You can take your theory test once your provisional licence becomes valid.

Normally, for car drivers, the earliest date your provisional licence can become valid is your 17th birthday, however you can apply for the licence up to three months before your 17th birthday.

So, if you apply for your provisional licence before you are 17 you will still have to wait until your birthday before you can take your theory test.

If you receive the higher rate of disability allowance you can take your driving test at 16 years of age.
That is incorrect.

You can obtain a provisional license from the age of sixteen and you can take your theory test as soon as you have your provissional license.

Also you can book your practical test as soon as you pass your theory test provided you book it for a date on which you are 17. You could book it for your 17th birthday if you so wished.
Please give us a link to where it says you can obtain a provisional car drivers licence when you turn 16 HYUT.

I don't think hyut21 is correct in his answer, my license came a few days before my 17th birthday , does this mean i could legally have taken my theory test at 16?

States athat you can start "learning" to drive when you are sixteen if you are in receipt of the higher level of disability allowance. It goes on to say that you can't actually drive on the road until your 17th Birthday.

"But you MUST NOT drive on the road until your licence has arrived and not until the day of your 17th birthday."
