My husband needs to tax his car at the end of the month and when checking his documents realised his current MOT ran out in Nov 07??!! He has booked MOT for Thurs and will not drive til then but will he get in trouble that his MOT is months out of date. Thanks
No he wont - he is allowed to drive a vehicle without an MOT to a prebooked MOT appointment that is a reasonable distance away from where the vehicle was stored
does no MOT strictly mean no insurance?
I have asked this Q before, and the answers led me to believe that no MOT would not automatically mean no insurance but insurers might refuse to pay out on a claim.
I don't think it does mean no insurance. You could be insured on a car but not drive it, and then it wouldn't need an MOT. You need an MOT to tax a car because they assume that if you are taxing it you will be using it. You don't need tax to get an MOT (in theory, if you kept the car at the MOT garage) because it just means it is roadworthy, not definately going to be used on the road.
and where is the proof backing up yor answer tubeway? I have never heard of a law allowing you to drive your vehicle to an MOT?
Im a fleet manager and know that if a vehicle has an expired MOT the lease company have to come and collect it on trade plates or a low loader in order to take it to be MOTd
