I've been playing guitar for about 9/10 years now and have gotten to the point where I almost can't stand being able to not write lyrics, which gives me a great idea about making lyrics about not being able to make lyrics, but I can't think of any lyrics and am not lyrically talented enough to write lyrics... I'm heavily influenced by the likes of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Y&T, and I'm MASSIVELY into Lordi. I'm obviously going use some sort of metaphor or imagery to describe my struggle in writing them, but what could I use? How could I revolve lyrics around an already composed Rhythm section? Anyone got hints and tips?
Hey, I never discovered Lordi in 2006 like many did, heck, I didn't even listen to HRH until a month after discovering them. I like their lyrics because they have a good play on words ("Scare Force One") sometimes the songs are a bit comical ("Nailed by the Hammer of Frankenstein" or "Devil is a loser") and sometimes they're serious ("The Riff" or "House of Ghosts"). I just like their approch to the way they make music
Try riffing on the guitar, while the established rhythm is playing. Just noodle, and make a note of any phrases that seem promising.
Without the guitar, brainstorm a load of words/thoughts/phrases that reflect how you're thinking about the problem. Anything that might sum up the struggle.
Then try and match a harmonic phrase to a rhythmic one.
