Half listening to Sunday Worship I heard a Salvation Army band play this tune. What's the hymn called?

highly unlikely to have been Noel Coward's London Pride, I suppose

from wiki
The same melody was later used by Haydn as the basis for the second movement (poco adagio) of Opus 76 No. 3, a string quartet often called the "Emperor" or "Kaiser" quartet. The melody in this movement is also termed the "Emperor's Hymn."

The tune, which is called Austria in Hymnals was written by Joseph Haydn. The two which commonly use this tune are: Glorious things of thee are spoken and Praise the Lord, ye heavens adore him.
as per my link, some have said the same
I don't think that ^^ worked - but it's Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken.
and... TVM for all your crozzy help.
It's also the German Nat Anthem: Deutschland Uber Alles

If somebody would write a hymn to the tune, Tannenbaum, there could be church services with a political subtext.
Haydn uses the same 'motif' in his trumpet concerto as well.
>>>If somebody would write a hymn to the tune, Tannenbaum, there could be church services with a political subtext

"Oh Tannenbaum" is sung in many churches anyway. The words aren't exactly a hymn but they're particularly appropriate if a church has a Christmas Tree Festival (as many here in East Anglia do):

"O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us!
They are green when summer days are bright,
They are green when winter snow is white.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us!

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!
How oft at Christmas tide the sight,
O green fir tree, gives us delight!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
Forever true your colour.
Your boughs so green in summertime
Stay bravely green in wintertime.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
Forever true your colour.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
You fill my heart with music.
Reminding me on Christmas Day
To think of you and then be gay.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
You fill my heart with music."
O Tannenbaum is a hymn .It's a German christmas carol based on an old folk song .
There are already two hymns which use this tune Sandy - Immanuel, Immanuel and Now Unto Us A Child Is Born.

Does the swindling never cease?
If I remember rightly 'Oh Tannenbaum' is the tune of the Socialist International which goes something like this :

The Peoples flag is deepest red.
It's shrouded o'er our martyed dead
W'll raise the scarlet banner high
Beneath its shade w'll live and die
Though cowards shrink and traitors sneer
W'll keep the red flag flying near

It was sung every year at the Labour Party and the TUC conferences.
If you didn't know the words you were likely to be sent to Siberia.
I remember a Minister for Wales was filmed trying to mime the words., not so long ago. He hasn't been seen since . I don't know which Gulag he's in.

The hymn Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken is
Deutschland über Alles ,The German Nat Anthem
Is it

Praise my soul the king of heaven,
To his feet thy tributes bring
Ransomed, feared, restored forgiven
Who like me his praises sing
Praise him, praise him
Praise him, praise him
Praise the everlasting king.

Some of the words are very possibly incorrect.
