Half listening to Sunday Worship I heard a Salvation Army band play this tune. What's the hymn called?

I don't think that ^^ worked - but it's Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken.

@Modeller "I remember a Minister for Wales was filmed trying to mime the words., not so long ago"

A Labour minister? Miming along to Red Flag? Do not remember that particular episode.

I do however recall very clearly a certain episode with John Redwood, then Secretary of State for Wales, caught on camera miming along to the Welsh National Anthem, to his very public embarassment :)

Modeller, I think it would have been a very long time since there was any mention of a red flag at a Labour Party conference.
Praise the Lord, ye heaven's adore him
The Red Flag is still sung at the Labour Party conference. The practice of singing it fell into abeyance under Blair but Milliband revived it.

It's good to see a politician who's not afraid to nail his colours to the mast.
This is the hymn I meant, but now I just think it's SIMILAR to the German National anthem:-(

Description:
Praise the Lord! Ye heaven's adore him
Praise him angels in the height
Sun and moon rejoice before him
Praise him all ye stars and light
Praise the Lord for he hath spoken
World's his mighty voice obey'd
Laws which never shall be broken
For their guidance he hath made.

Praise the Lord for he is glorious
Never shall his promise fail
God hath made his saints victorious
Sin and death shall not prevail
Praise the God of our salvation
Hosts on high His power proclaim
Heav'n and earth and all creation
Laud and magnify his name.
horseshoes I tried singing Praise my Soul to the tune of :

Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
Über alles in der Welt,
Wenn es stets zu Schutz und Trutze
Brüderlich zusammenhält.
Von der Maas bis an die Memel,
Von der Etsch bis an den Belt,
|: Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
Über alles in der Welt! :|

Sorry it wont fit .

Here it is in Englsh:
Germany, Germany above everything,
Above everything in the world,
When, for protection and defense, it always
takes a brotherly stand together.
From the Meuse to the Memel,
From the Adige to the Belt,
|: Germany, Germany above everything,
Above everything in the world! :

No, I know, Modeller, I THOUGHT it was that, but I realised as soon as I posted it, it's just similar. Sorry.
LG You may well be right about John Redwood.

Fredpuli Im surprised that Ed should have revived it. It doesn't make sense
to trumpet the Communist rallying anthem .
sandyRoe, what radio/tv station were you listening to. Perhaps you could play it again on catch-up.
They only officilally sing the third verse these days modeller as declared in 1991 by Weizsäcker and Kohl after reunification .
The "Red Flag" song is not a communist anthem. It is a song dedicated to socialism - and communism and socialism are markedly different, although I note that many tend to conflate and confuse the 2.

Haydn wrote the tune "Austria" in (I think) the second movement of String Quartet in C Major, Op. 76, No. 3. also known as "The Emperor". In that form it has saved the sanity of many more people than either Deuchland uber Wotsit or Glorious Things. Wonderful "Papa" Haydn!
I thought it was Guide me o thou gret Jehovah/redeemer

that is the hymn with "bread of heaven" in it
I know another version of the German anthem, well known in Rugby club bars.
One verse is
Even now the baby's started
Having epileptic fits,
Every time it coughs it spews and
Every time it f@rts it sh!ts

The other verses are even worse !
Weren't the lyrics for the red flag written by Brendan behan's uncle?
Question Author
I think he wrote The Soldiers Song, the Irish National anthem.
