Finding a phone number

In the phone book we have, you can only look for people by their last name, BUT I know the road that someone lives in and roughly their last name.

Without looking through every person with that or a similar name (there'll be a lot) is there a way of finding their number?

No (Not without specialist software anyway)
Best you could do is get the number of address, then look at
Whois.com, or try to blag Directory Enquiries to find it. Don't hold your hopes tho.

And you don't know anyone who might know their phone number?

I think there is a directory enquiries on line, you can enter in the area there from and what you think there name is and it will filter them out for you

Look up the electoral role under the address and you'll find out their surname - then look up the phone book.

Can you not track them down on Facebook or similar (or someone who knows them who may have their number or can pass on yours)?

If you looking for landline number - you know the surname and road 192 will work

You are always given the choice before connection. Never ask to be connected as it is expensive!
