Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis, by Ralph Vaughan Williams, so beautiful, after what seems a fraught news day, what better way to wind down. Any one know it, like it? or your favourite classical piece of music to while away the night.

im so pleased you were all awake earlier, when i posted this.
Yes, it's a wonderful piece. It's obviously a favourite as it's been used most recently in Master and Commander and even The Fast Show.
As for fave classical piece to while away the night, too many to mention!
Beautiful music, superbly performed (even if the earlier passages are taken somewhat faster than usual)

I really don't think it gets much better than this...

That's undoubtedly wonderful music, Mark, but requiems can be a bit depressing. I like choral music which cheers me up! This is fantastic:

And another wonderful piece from a great film.

I have found Allegri Miserere to be as beautiful piece of choral music as you could wish. Not one i was familiar with, but if you don't know it, check it out. Harry Christophers sixteen do a fine version, i have discovered so many pieces that move me, both Faure Requiem and Mozarts Requiem, that i could listen to all day.
