I just seen a TV ad for Imelda May's new album which declares her 'the undisputed queen of rock n roll'. Excuse me???? I can't even name one of her songs, let alone hum them. Earlier this year a TV ad for Alfie Boe's debut CD described him as 'the nation's favourite tenor', when I doubnt many peole had even heard of him. What do you make of such hype and who do you think are truly deserving of those descriptions?

Imelda May and Alfie Boe will, themselves, have had very little to do with the way in which their record companies market them.
Imelda May is worth a listen. Great live act, been around for a few years, 3 albums, been on Jools Holland shows a few times, not mainstream pop or chart stuff though
She could be the queen of rock n roll, as off the top of my head, i cant think of anyone else who'd fit that bill.
actually she's great, I did buy her album a few months back, though i wouldn't go so far as to say she's the undisputed queen of rock and roll,
as to Alfie Boe, he has a great voice, and i have seen him in concert.
It's the usual hype from the record companies, nothing im sure to do with the artist as such
Imelda May is brilliant, and I can think of no one who does what she does better.

Do you have a preferred female rock n' roller, or is it a genre you are totally ignorant of?

I love Adele, she has a great voice. And have seen Imelda May in concert at the Albert Hall alongside Jools Hollands and his R&B band
though i prefer Colm Wilkison, original Jean Valjean in Les Miserable, this
is Alfie Boe's version

sorry stick keyboard, Colm Wilkinson.
Question Author
providing an example of Imelda May doing a very poor cover of an old 80s classic is not going to convince me she's the queen of anything

But 'others' are giving her that title.......not she herself.

I thought she was more Rock-a-billy than Rock 'n' Roll, anyway.......

I think its done to subliminally make you believe that these people are as good at they are claiming, despite the fact that a lot of people would not have heard of them.

a bit like simon cowell's attempts at selling cher lloyd as "groundbreaking and unique" and hoping the huddled masses would pick up the phone and vote.
Well done JTH, didn't know of her?
Imelda May's got a brilliant voice
Gloria Jones has a few 'noteworthy' entries on her CV.
1. Tainted Love;
2. She was the girlfriend of Marc Bolan and driving the Mini when it crashed and he died.
