Hello!

Can anyone tell me who sang the song "Someone's left the cake out in the rain...". I remember it was a song I used to hear back in the seventies (I was about 7), when I didn't understand or speak English (I'm French) and I only became aware of the meaning of this line a very long time after. Was it  part of a musical ?

MacArthur Park by Donna Summer (although other people have done versions).

I wouldn't worry about not getting the double meanings - I only realised what it was on about when I was 18 and I'm English!

I think it's called McArthur Park by Donna Summer.

Do you know that I had no idea Donna Summer did it? I only know the Richard Harris version. What is it all about then?

Originally by Richard Harris in 1968, covered by Donna Summer about ten years later, and written by Jimmy Webb (who also penned Up Up And Away and Wichita Lineman among others).

What's it all about? *shrugs* Ask Jimmy Webb!
Sorry to post a link as an answer but his might help

I'd be surprised if any of you know this, but Maynard Ferguson's version is my favourite.
What IS this song about?? Pardon my ignorance.

Hi,

My first post! Pleased to meet you all. :o)

I'm in the music business, and littleoldme has got it all right. No-one knows what it's all about (does Jim Webb?), but I've sung this song soooh many times, and there's something in the lyrics that really gives the singer a *wham*. It's a real pleasure to perform it.

As long as you enjoy it, that's great. As a songwriter, I wish I'd written it!

Musically yours,

John.
