I was wondering if anyone could tell me why David Lean chose Rachmaninov concerto no 2 for the soundtrack in Brief Encounter I am writing an essay about soundtracks in films

The reason it was chosen apparently isn't known. It's rumoured that Rachmaninov was experiencing a heartbreak when he composed it. This may help...
