I played drums in bands for nearly 20 years and have always hated "electronic drums" going as far back as the Simmons (I own a SDSV). The whole feel of a pad and a drum is totally different. The old pads were like playing a table. I think the beauty of an acoustic instrument is it is shaped by its surroundings (including the way you set it up) and you don't need an amp to hear it. That said, I have not seen nor played the new Rowland but I don't think it would match the subtlety of an acoustic drum or cymbal come to that. Ah, give me a Ludwig 400 and a 16" Zildjian china-boy high any day of the week.
