Converting Lp's To Cd's.

I have lots of LP's which I wish to convert to CD's. Consequently I am looking for a cheapish piece of equipment to enable me to do so.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

You simply need Audacity

together with the LAME MP3 encoder

to save the audio files to your computer. You can then use the disc-burniing software on your computer to create audio CDs.

That, of course, assumes that you've got a record deck with a suitable output (such as phono sockets) to start with, together with a lead that can connect that output to the input on your computer, e.g:

This is what I use. Theyre hard to find so buy it quick. It records analogue to MP3 from your vinyl turntable. It has USB to load to pc for burning. Long life battery, you will find lots more uses ;)

@FrogNog.....I don't know how you have been awarded 'Best Answer' because I don't think I clicked it so. Nevertheless, as you are on the lines I have in mind, I feel your answer should remain as the best.

Buenchico, I always appreciate your advice , but on this occassion it does appear from the Video to be a very complicated procedure.

As an alternative, have you considered not doing this at all and replacing your vinyl with remastered CDs? More often than not, remasters offer superb value for money and the quality will be many times better than any manual conversion process will give. Vinyl is becoming increasingly collectible too, so you might not be much more out of pocket.

My advice would be to connect your existing decent turntable/HiFi to your PC and use something like Buenchico suggested to dump the data stream into files. It may look complex when you first look at it but it doesn't take a lot of practice to become an old hand at it.

Any device will need some software to go with it and the vast majority of such devices seem to be supplied with Audacity. (So the instructions in the Youtube video I provided will still apply anyway).

The particular device you linked to has got lousy reviews. I suggest looking at the 'Customers also viewed' items on that page. For example, this is in the same price bracket and has somewhat better reviews:

I don't doubt tamborine that your 'wee gadget' has merit but I am Not into buying from Ebay and your link appears to be for Ebay in the USA, whereas I am resident in the UK.
