I cannot understand why no one on the news section of AB has yet mentioned the devastating Earthquake in Nepal?
The British government has increased the UK’s aid contribution to £15million. this in my opinion is the correct way to use overseas aid instead of the blank cheques we dish out to all and sundry, which generally goes to increase the life styles of corrupt despots.
Pity though that their own the Hyatt Regency hotel isn't so 'accommodating'.
On a fiscal note, if they allowed all and sundry the place would be wrecked and a company, rather than a Government, would have to foot the bill. Not sure that is fair.
In addition, Nepal will need all the income it can get to rebuild it's economy that needs tourism, destroying the very thing that generated this income will only cause the pain to be prolonged.
On a humanitarian note it seems a shame they cannot do something.
The hotel has no water or electricity, it has engineers on site making sure the building is structurally sound following the earthquake so that international relief organisations can base their operations there, and it is currently trying to take care of its existing guests. What more do you expect it to do?
