When Two Tribes went straight in at number one in June 1984, Relax, which had been steadily making its way down the charts after being number one, suddenly did a U-turn and started making its way back up again, eventually getting as high as number two while Two Tribes was still at the top.
Also, I stand to be corrected, but I think John Lennon achieved this shortly after his death. I seem to remember Imagine being number one and Happy Xmas (War Is Over) being number two at the same time.

The Beatles achieved this feat for THREE consecutive weeks, from 27th December 1967 to 16th January 1968, with HELLO GOODBYE at no. 1, and MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR (EP) at no. 2 (not sure if this was their first or only time or whether another act had achieved this accolade previously to them). http:// www.off icialch arts.co m/chart s/singl es-char t/19671 227/750 1/
The next time after this an act occupied both the two top positions in the singles chart, was, in 1984, for TWO consecutive weeks, from 1st to 14th of July, when Frankie Goes to Hollywood were positioned at one and two with TWO TRIBES (1) and RELAX (2). http:// www.off icialch arts.co m/chart s/singl es-char t/19840 701/750 1/
