I grew up in the States, so I may be hard-pressed for an answer. I remember a song from about 13 years ago played on an indie/alternative radio station about a dog named Dixie. It was basically a man singing, playing a guitar. Kind of folk-sy. This is how the song started..can't find it anywhere in the interweb. If you can help, I'll be so happy! Went like this:
I'm a tiny dog named Dixie I have small feet which pitter-patter on the linoleum, you can hear my toenails in the middle of the night.
My tag says I belong to the Johnsons, but they don't own me, they just feed me, they just bought me one day......

It's not exactly as I rememeber it, either it's a different version or my memory has jumbled it up a bit. The link you gave was part of the song, the full one is here:
