Rolling Stones In Cuba.....

Considering we are such a small island, its amazing how much music & talent we have given the World the past 50 years.

I know the concert was free last night, but there was over half a million people there, to watch four British OAPs, rock and roll.

I feel quite proud in a way.

When I left for school in the late 50s, I used to try and comb my hair like Tommy Steele :-)

I agree Trt, you take some of the basic elements of a certain genre of music, in the Stones case the blues and you put your own stamp on it, re-packaged, re-branded and sold back.
Try to copy or replicate it, it just don't work and once you get rolling, you find your own style.

Feeling proud, yes I'd take no scorn for that!

I felt a bit of pride in humanity and for the Cuban people particularly. I've pondered on which group would have been the best to do this concert. The Stones are iconic but are getting on a bit - not that I've yet thought who might have been a better choice.

I did as well Prudie, and thought an American group or band would have been more appropriate, with Obama just visiting, but who have they got theses days?

When Bill Bailey & the Rockets toured the UK, my brother went to see them at the Odeon cinema in Manchester as I wasn't old enough, but he told me all about the crowd ripping the seats up etc!!!!

I pondered that too, and considered that Bob Dylan might be a good US choice and go down well.
Probably wise though to leave 'Motorpsycho Nitemare' off the song list. :-)

I met some friends for a walk the other day and it turns out that the bar where we met was the old Crawdaddy Club (where the Stones first started). There wasn`t even a commemoration on the wall. Same with Eel Pie Island. The most Eel Pie got was a pop up exhibition during the rugby world cup. We should make the more of our music heritage.
