Marc Bolan died 39 years ago today. Scary eh? I keep meaning to go and see where he died as it`s not far from here. His music was way ahead of it`s time and it hasn`t dated.

That is scary, Tilly ... they've be extinct 65 million years.
I went to see T. Rex when I was seventeen. I didn't enjoy the gig. I only went because my boyfriend at the time bought the tickets.
do you think that joke doing the rounds at the time was a little below the belt? what was his last hit?, a tree.
Awww. that's not nice!
He was a very beautiful young man.

He died when his Mini was crashed into a tree at Barnes when his girlfiend was driving. I read a biog about him and apparently, he always said that he would die young and in a car.
Tilly - same here, and got his autograph, Wish I'd kept it....
Where did you see him?

Hanley, Stoke on Trent, Losgigs.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and I seriously regret not going to see T. Rex when they played in Hanley – which is hear where I live as well. But they were a ‘teenybopper’ band, and beneath my lofty ‘prog’ retentions. Now, Electric Warrior’ is one of my favourite albums, and I would have loved to have seen Bolan strutting his stuff. That is filed along with my later love of Northern Soul music, which I didn’t have when The Torch was open just a few miles away, and I could have gone to Wigan Casino, and never did.
And then there was Marc's northern soul girlfriend, Andy !.

Indeed Tony.

Actually, Gloria Jones has had a hugely successful career as a singer and as a songwriter. I never knew that she wrote ‘I Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet’ which was a huge disco hit for Gary’s Gang, and she sang on loads of top-end album tracks by very big artists.
If you do go to visit the spot, go by train to Barnes, there is no parking along that road.
Yes quite surprising isn't she.

I must say that at the time that their relationship became public I couldn't get my head around it. I couldn't quite understand that the queen of northern soul
( at that time ) whose record 'Tainted Love' used to fill the Casino dance floor had taken up with a Glam rocker.
