have seen Alfie Boe live twice..was absolutely brilliant both nights..also Alexander Armstrong who also was good and played the piano wonderfully ! perhaps the content of performances had changed ?
for once i disagree, Bryn Terfel would have made a fantastic Javert in Les Mis, the film would have benefited by his enormously wonderful voice. as it was they cast Russell Crowe which just didn't work.
best live performance ever was Don Mclean..close second Neil Sedaka... Pavarotti in a class of his own !
My wife is going to see Alfie Boe and Michael Ball together in concert tonight !!

I bought the tickets for my wife and her sister as a treat so I hope they enjoy it.
I am sure they will..Michael Ball was a school friend of a work colleague in Norwich, he used to call in to the office for coffee when in town..very nice chap !
Boe can't make it in the operatic world, so he's crossed over to standards and pop music, he was good singing songs from Les Mis, but he can't beat Colm Wilkinson who was in the part when the show first opened in 1985.
Alfie Boe agreed, haven't heard Alexander Armstrong but anything , seriously anything at all, by Cliff Richard...make me hackle.
Boe is a really very good entertainer live Emmie... his ,bring him home , always had the audience in tears...

not as good as this guy, Colm Wilkinson
he has that certain something, i saw the show in 85 with him in the lead.

Went to see Neil Diamond live in Glasgow in October. What a fabulous night we had - may be getting on in years but his voice has lost none of its power.
so called rap artists make me switch off the tv or radio can't bear any of it, though i have tried.
emmie, hadn't heard Colm Wilkinson before, but that was wonderful.
he was the first Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, he was outstanding as you can tell, there has never been anyone as good in the part. I know he was the first but i saw the show again and it just wasn't the same.
Emmie....nearly agree ! Crowe was dreadful. He was even worse when he played Robin Hood !

But going back to classical roles and voices. A "Broadway" type of voice is ideal for what it was intended for....musicals. But in the concert I saw with Terfel, he sang the first half, with Wagner, Verdi, etc. But in the second half, it was South Pacific, Oklahoma, etc.

His rendering of "Some enchanted evening" will haunt me to my dying days !

Even worse was Josephine Barstow....her "Kiss me Kate" was risible.
Best Live Show ever for me was Johnny Mathis.
kids not singing in tune
like the awful chorus in Grandad Grandad we love you
or any muppet film
really Denton ? I saw him years back in Edinburgh..had no rapport with the audience at all... sang at us..no chat.. barely smiled...perhaps he was having a bad day
Listen to these guys....real talent, and just the right material...wonderful !

And how about this ! ( watch the audience at 03:10, when they take that all-important step forward ! )

I repeat....real talent.

Katherine Jenkins, can't stand her at any price.
