I probably remember Christopher Trace as the most important presenter from my viewing days, simply because he was there when I was at primary school.
John Noakes, who was probably a better presenter, didn't join the programme until I'd started secondary school. (Admitting to watching Blue Peter, or any other children's TV programmes, simply wasn't acceptable at our grammar school, as we were expected to have got well beyond that stage by the grand old age of 11).
i always remember Blue Peter being middle class and ITV's Magpie a bit common! I also remember never having the sticky back plastic or any other crafty items needed to make the various 'makes'.
