We sang a song in church this morning that began with "the lord is my shepherd" but was not the traditional hymn based on psalm 23. It was probably titled after the chorus which was different but I can't remember how it went. Anyone know?

v

here this may help you. There are several different versions.

Of all the versions I have heard the "nicest" to me is
Howard Goodalls setting of Psalm 23, the theme to the TV series The Vicar of Dibley. performed by the Christ Church Cathedral Choir Oxford

Maggie, those are Bible translations.

Gaz seems to be talking about a song.

Was it a modern 'chorus' or a traditional 'hymn'? The only chorus I can think of is by Stuart Townsend

The verse is the Psalm 23 and the chorus is

And I will trust in you alone.

And I will trust in you alone.

You tender mercies follow me

Your goodness restores my soul.

The chorus can be done in two parts with the ladies 'echoing' the men.

Not sure if that is the one - only one I can think of.

Really sorry. I was trying to copy and paste (something I have been having trouble with) and didn't read it properly. My mistake.

I used to sing a different version of "The Lord's My Shepherd" known as "Brother James' Air" which I believe was possibly a more choral arrangement. If you Google "Brother James' Air" you should get more info on it.
These are the words of the song by Peter Townsend 1996 ThankYou Music:

The Lords my shepherd, Ill not want,
He makes me lie in pastures green,
He leads me by the still, still waters,
His goodness restores my soul.

And I will trust in You alone,
And I will trust in You alone,
For Your endless mercies follow me,
Your goodness will lead me home.

He guides my ways in righteousness,
And He anoints my head with oil,
And my cup it overflows with joy,
I feast on His pure delights.

And though I walk the darkest path
I will not fear the Evil One,
For You are with me, and Your rod and staff,
Are the comfort I need to know

Descant:
I will trust, I will trust in You,
I will trust, Iwill trust in You,
Endless mercy follows me,
Goodness will lead me home
