I'm afraid I've given up on it. I loved the first few episodes, but it has been dragged out beyond its natural span. 6 episodes would have been enough. I had a great interest in that I lived in Halifax and know Shibden Hall and its history pretty well....Ann Lister was well known. As it happens, I was just getting back into teaching after having my children and I did a spell teaching at the then girl's grammar school (Princess Mary's). Another teacher was the lady who deciphered the diaries. She was at the stage where she had just done this and was trying to interest a publisher in her work. I'm sorry I can't remember her name, but we had some interesting chats over a cuppa at break. It was also interesting for me because of knowing the locality. 'Crow's Nest' was bought by Sir Titus Salt and I was born and lived at Baildon just above Saltaire. Even with that, the series was stretched too far for me - but it is a tour de force for Suranne Jones.
Sqad, like all the best drama and literature, its about people. There are gay characters and straight ones, good ones and bad ones. Yes the leading character is gay but she is also kind, intelligent, progressive, strong, vulnerable.....
