In 'The Lakes' Dad sang this song 'I know a millionaire, whose life is full of care....' Where do these come from?

If I am not mistaken this song goes back to the Al Jolson era. Supposedly it was a letter to a magazine, jolson read it and loved it and asked someone to put music to it. He sang it live on radio and in a few of his shows. It has been covered a couple of times but it originally had just the one verse. Lots of dads of a certain age like this one. P.S. what is/are The Lakes?

Thank you blue dolphin..."The Lakes" were two series, (TV) scripted by Jimmy McGovern about a lad Danny who leaves Liverpool after gambling his dole check away and goes to live in the Lake District with his pregnant girlfriend. Then a group of young girls drown and the whole community falls apart under the strain.
