Second Update On My Cat With Suspected Brain Haemorrhage.
134 Answers
For those interested, Bobbie didn't have his x-ray last week as he wasn't well enough to take the anaesthetic. He had it today instead and VD has been ruled out and a Stroke confirmed. There is no treatment except he is having steroid injections as he won't take his pills. The vet agrees with me he seems a happy boy, not in pain, (he was nudging the vet to stroke him), so as long as he stays that way we will continue to give him any support he needs. If things change then a different decision may have to be made but at the moment we are all happy. All except the dog who couldn't care less.

He is such a happy boy Chris and that is lovely to see. Interestingly (to me) was one of the nurses told me that the vets (three of them) had said they found Bobbie to be a most interesting case. Gosh you must have been so relieved when Biscuit's fits stopped and he's now OK. I wonder if that is an unusual thing to happen.

Well the long lasting steroid injection seems to have worn off since yesterday afternoon, so not that long lasting. My boy came to me when I got up wanting a stroke and then jumped up to his food area. He didn't want his proper cat food, fish in jelly, so offered his new dry food, which he loved on Friday, no, didn't want that. Next some pieces of chicken breast were airily sniffed at and left, ditto a can of tuna, a dish of cream and then in desperation some Dreamies. WHAT DO I DO?
The appetite increase may have been due to the steroids. I would leave out a selection of food if you can, and hopefully he will help himself as and when he wants it. In any case, I hope he is better soon.
My sister's cat has brain damage (possible from drinking antifreeze or something from a puddle) from only a year old, but other than holding her head a bit strangely, she is now very healthy and happy xx

Thank you BB. Trouble is if he won't eat he ain't gonna last long is he the little so and so. Which makes me wonder, Pixie, did your sister's cat have a loss of appetite after its BH? Oh and yes the jab was also to help his appetite.
This has been going on for 5 weeks now but the vet isn't worried as he has dropped only from 4.8 to 4.2. As long as he stays over 4kg they are not worried. I have to agree that is not a big loss.

I'm afraid you're going to have to go with Bobbie on eating, ladybirder. We did once have a cat who wouldn't eat, and my dear partner tried to inject food into her mouth for a while, but it was very distressing, and we stopped. It transpired that she had cancer, and for her final time we let her eat, or not, as she chose.
All our many cats seem to have known when it was time to try, and time not to try. If he's happy not eating much, or at all, so be it. I'm glad you've got such a kind vet.
BB
