I'm trying to think of really great songs that were one hit wonders. Things like Video Killed the Radio Star. Real classics that everyone loves. Any ideas?!

Gloria - Laura Brannigan. Was that a one-hit-wonder?
//Blue Oyster cult is hardly a one hit wonder//

They really were 3T. Lots of hit albums and successful tours, but that was their only hit single.
She did Self Control as well Tigger.
I am The One and Only - Chesney Hawkes, M - Pop Music, San Fransisco - Scott McKenzie
//Cat's in the Cradle was in the top 10 for Chapin, even in the UK //

er, no it wasn't. Ugly Kid Joe reached no7 with the song in the UK, but Harry Chapin didn't. WOLD's no34 was the best he ever did in the UK.
Mad World - Gary Jules? Love that version.
Time in a Bottle - Jim Croce?
Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky was a good one.
jno //Cat's in the Cradle was in the top 10 for Chapin, even in the UK (No 1 in the States)//

Nope, never charted in the top 50 over here, nor did the wonderful Taxi.

Cat's In The Cradle charted as cover version by Ugly Kid Joe in the 90s. Maybe that's what you were thinking of? (You're right though, its was a number one hit in the States)
Ha. Mushroom beat me to it.
//Time in a Bottle - Jim Croce//

Jim Croce never charted in the UK. Weird that, as Time in a Bottle and Bad Bad Leroy Brown are both stonking tunes.
ok well if we mean one no 1 then fair enough but generally I think of "one hit wonder" to mean at least 1 song that came to prominence not necessarily no 1, with the artist drifting into obscurity after that.
The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles' definition of a hit single is a record that has been in the Top Seventy-Five for at least a week.
I liked the Allisons with "Are you Sure?"
listening to the radio might sometimes lead you to believe that some prominent artists only ever had one hit. Snow Patrol and "chasing cars", for instance.

I see your point 3T, but I'd say that to be a OHW, the famous song has to have at least been a hit. There are plenty of acts whose signature songs weren't hits: Billy Joel (Piano Man), John Denver (Country Roads, Take Me Home), Kirsty MacColl (They Don't Know), Led Zeppelin (Stairway To Heaven) spring to mind.

John Farnham - You're The Voice

Mental As anything - Live It Up

Mouldy old dough. Lietenant pigeon.
Ah-ha..take on me
