I told her that we didn't appreciate all the music we had, and that in the years to come she would look back and really enjoy the music of her time.
Turns out I was wrong and she was right, it was crap.

Andy //the result has been that from the late 1980's and certainly into the '90's and to the present day, pop music has a built-in anonymity and obsolescence that was simply not the case in earlier times.//
Was it really not? Surely there would be as many forgotten and obsolete music from earlier decades? But the further time moves on, the more only the best are still remembered.

some good and bad in all era's mostly as andy says though 80 90's pump out any old forgettable dross, saying that there was some k@ap in the 70's song called shannon and seasons in the sun.. i find both cringe worthy, but really if you dig into it, there were good in all the decades and pending what radio station you listened to at the time, also a lot of missed greats deliberate or otherwise was john martyn
1990 TOTP is going to be awful on the whole, but there's certainly the start of a renaissance of sorts for decent music. The Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets and The Stone Roses were heading up the next wave of British independent music, Nirvana were about to drop Nevermind, Blur's debut album was only a few months away, and more commercial bands like The Lightnings Seeds, Crowded House and Beautiful South were hitting their peak. It might've been a bit desolate in the Summer of 1990, but things were about to get more interesting.
